Friends and Neighbors in Action Announces Third Annual 5K

FNA5F

Friends and Neighbors in Action (FNA), a non-profit organization that assists patients and families suffering from serious, chronic, and debilitating diseases, announces its 3rd Annual 5K.  This year the event will be held September 26, 2009 at Thompson Park in Monroe Township.  Proceeds for this year’s event will go to benefit children and families suffering from childhood cancers.

FNA is excited to be partnering with The Daniel Patrick Ryan Foundation (DPRF) of Monroe Township and the Embrace Kids Foundation of Robert Wood Johnson Community Hospital.

The DPRF was initially created to provide assistance to the Ryan Family while their eldest son Danny was battling leukemia.  After Danny passed away at the young age of just 26, his brother Kenny, his wife Gabrielle (Gaby), his youngest brother Michael, and Christopher Blotto and countless others who were touched by Danny and the lives that he helped, chose to continue the efforts of the foundation whose primary mission is to support children and families battling cancer. (For more information on The Daniel Patrick Ryan Foundation please visit their website at www.dprf.org)

Embrace Kids Foundation was formerly known as The Institute for Children and was founded in 1991 by a group of parents whose children’s non-medical needs were not being fulfilled. The organization is comprised of the parents of patients, working professionals, community leaders, and college/high school students who all work to improve quality of life and relieve stress on families. Embrace Kids Foundation offers unique programs and services to children with cancer, sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Many of the children are underserved due to socio-economic factors and family dynamics. (For more information on Embrace Kids please visit their website at www.embracekids.org)

FNA is excited to be partnering with these two worthy organizations and all proceeds raised from this year’s event will be divided amongst the DPRF, Embrace Kids, and FNA’s family assistance program.  In today’s economic environment it is more important than ever that we support these families in need.

We need your help!  Register to run, be a sponsor, or just volunteer….see you on race day!
